Inspired by the desire of Srila Prabhupada to open a temple in South Africa in 1975, where he instructed his devotees to build a temple and host a Ratha Yatra, the construction finally began in 1980 and was completed in 1985 after overcoming several challenges, with marble sourced from Portugal and oak from Japan. The largest Radha Krishna temple in the Southern Hemisphere hosts the largest Ratha Yatra festival outside India every Easter Weekend, and it gained further recognition when Nelson Mandela attended and declared it “the happiest day of my life.”
10. ISKCON Nairobi - Sri Sri Radha Bankibehari Mandir, Kenya:

In the late 1980s, devotees openly chanted Hare Krishna during public speeches, after which Moscow authorities allocated a building for the construction of the first-ever ISKCON temple in the Soviet Union. The dwelling deity of Sri Sri Dayal Nitai Sachisuta was established in 1989, when the first Soviet devotee brought the Sri Sri Gaur Nitai deity from Vrindavan. 12. ISKCON Kyiv - New Navadvipa Mandir, Ukraine:
Firstly founded in a basement in 1980 by Ukrainian devotees during Soviet communist rule, the grand temple was constructed in 1992 on the city's outskirts. After its completion, the six-story New Navadvipa Mandir, housing the deities of Sri Sri Radha Madhav and Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, became the largest ISKCON temple in Europe and a home for more than 50,000 devotees across Ukraine, hosting the largest Food for Life program in the country. 13. ISKCON New Mayapur - Château d'Oublaise, Indre, France:
In July 1974, Srila Prabhupada himself chose the historic 1905 Château d'Oublaise in rural France, purchasing it with book sales from the French devotees. After the purchase, Srila Prabhupada installed the deities of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga and named the community “New Mayapur” in honor of Lord Chaitanya's birthplace. The temple holds a unique distinction as the first temple to become part of the house of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram deities in the Western world.

Founded in 1977, 850 acres of land in the Tweed Valley were acquired for just $80,000 with the help of eight devotees. The name Gita Nagari was given by Srila Prabhupada himself, as mentioned in his 1956 Back to Godhead article, in which he wrote about community living and surviving on the principles of the Bhagavad Gita. With this vision, ISKCON Gita Nagari emerged as a vibrant temple in the Pennsylvania region of the USA, presiding over the deities of Sri Sri Radha Damodar. 16. ISKCON San Francisco - New Jagannath Puri, California:
When Srila Prabhupada arrived in San Francisco in January 1967, he saw that one of his disciples was carving the Lord Jagannath deity, after which he named the city “New Jagannath Puri” and made San Francisco the first place outside India where Lord Jagannath was worshipped in the Western world. In the summer of 1967, San Francisco witnessed its first Ratha Yatra, conducted by Srila Prabhupada, and since then it has become an annual festival that attracts thousands of devotees.
17. ISKCON Montreal - Hare Krishna Temple, Quebec, Canada:
Established in 1967 in a converted bowling alley on Park Avenue, Montreal holds a significant position in ISKCON history. It was the city where Srila Prabhupada spent the summer of 1968, accompanied by more than 100 disciples. However, the current temple, an Anglican church acquired in 1975, houses the deities of Sri Sri Radha Manohara, Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohana, Sri Sri Jagannath Baladev Subhadra, and Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga. 18. ISKCON Paris - Sri Sri Radha Parisisvara Temple, Sarcelles:
Established in 1969, with the installation of the deities of Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Ji. However, in 1973, Srila Prabhupada himself visited the temple to install the deities of Sri Sri Radha Parisisvara, making Paris one of the first European cities outside the UK to receive the Sri Radha Krishna deity. After struggling for a decade, the devotees finally found a good and secure place for a permanent temple in Sarcelles in 2007. 19. ISKCON Berlin - Sri Jagannatha Temple, Germany:
The Jagannatha temple in Berlin is the heart of Krishna Consciousness in Germany, as the temple deity was personally sent by the King of Puri, Ganapati Maharaja, in 1997 from Jagannatha Puri, carved from the sacred wood left over after the Nabakalebara festival. Since 2016, the temple has celebrated the Ratha Yatra festival uniquely at Brandenburg Gate, the most iconic symbol in Germany's history, reflecting community involvement and cultural diversity in Germany.
20. ISKCON Amsterdam - Hare Krishna Temple, Netherlands:
Hare Krishna Mandir has been part of Amsterdam since 1970, located at Van Hilligaertstraat, offering a daily morning program from 5 AM with traditional Hare Krishna kirtan, Bhagavatam classes, and mantra meditation. ISKCON temple in Hungary was founded in the late 1980s, just after the fall of communist rule, when devotees felt the need for spiritual knowledge after 40 years of communist dominance. Housing the deity of Sri Sri Dayal Nitai Vijaya Gauranga, the first temple opened in 1991, and the current grand temple was inaugurated in 2006 after the former Samsung Electronics facility was transformed. ISKCON Houston was founded in 1971 in a small home in Montrose. Over the next four decades, the community expanded across multiple locations before opening its 24,000 sq ft Orissan-style temple in 2014, which attracted over 10,000 devotees on its inauguration day. The temple is home to Sri Sri Radha Nila Madhava, Sri Sri Radha Giridhari, Sri Sri Nitai Chaitanya Chandra, and Sri Giriraj Govardhan. 27. ISKCON Chicago - Sri Sri Kisora Kisori Temple, Rogers Park, Illinois:
The home of Sri Sri Kisora Kisori, the ISKCON temple in Chicago, was first identified in 1973 in Evanston by Srila Prabhupada himself. However, the temple was relocated to its current location, 1716 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago's Rogers Park, in 1979. Founded in 1971 on 13th Street in Atlanta as the first Krishna community in Georgia, the temple was later moved to its current home at 1287 S. It is named New Panihati Dhama in remembrance of the divine pastimes of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga. ISKCON Temple in Malaysia was Srila Prabhupada's desire when he visited Kuala Lumpur for five days, during which a well-wisher donated his land for the temple's construction. Founded in 1980, Sri Jagannatha Mandir oversees over 14 registered branches and more than 20 active preaching centres across the country. Srila Prabhupada made an unplanned visit to Perth on May 6, 1975, when construction at the Melbourne temple was delayed, and he had planned to take a retreat there. During this visit, he was deeply moved by the city's beautiful scenery and roses, and he desired to build a grand temple there.
