Verse 1
The autumn moon shines, the breeze blows gently; the forest is filled with the fragrance of flowers. Jasmine, malati, and yuthika blossoms bloom, and intoxicated bees hover about them.
Verse 2
Seeing this, the night appears so enchanting; dark, charming Syama's mind is filled with amorous longing. The song of his flute rings out in the fifth note, stealing away the hearts of chaste women.
Verse 3
Hearing it, the gopis, their love stirred, silently surrender themselves in their hearts; they go wherever it calls them, wherever the sweet, resounding notes of the flute lead.
Verse 4
Abandoning home and even their own bodies in their haste, one gopi goes with kohl applied to only one eye, another wearing just a single anklet, another with only one earring swaying.
Verse 5
Their waist-sashes loosened, the young women rush forth in haste; their garments slip, their girdles and bodices come undone, and their loosened braids sway wildly.
Verse 6
There the sakhis all gather together, none heeding another's path; thus do they meet with the moon of Gokula — so tells Govinda dasa.
