Mansarovar is located in Vraj Bhumi, near Vrindavan, where the enchanting pastime or leela of Shrimati Radharani and Krishna was performed. The leela of maan, or loving anger, was performed by Radha Rani towards Krishna. A lake still exists at this sacred place today, associated with the Mansarovar leela of Radha and Krishna.
Radha Rani Mansarovar Leela
During the time of Rasa leela, Shrimati Radha Rani entered into a transcendental sulking mood, maan. While Krishna was performing Rasa dance with the gopis, Radharani became displeased and went away from the rasa circle. She crossed the river Yamuna and went to a quiet and secluded place in the forest.
Unable to bear the intense feeling of separation from Krishna, Radharani began crying. Her love for Krishna is pure and eternal, and that separation from Him caused her to weep. Tears of separation continuously flowed from her eyes and formed a lake that became known as Mansarovar.
When she left the rasa gathering, rasa leela stopped, and Krishna began searching for Radharani. After searching everywhere throughout the Vraja, He found her at the secluded place of Mansarovar. When Krishna saw Radharani, He did not directly ask her to stop being angry, but He repeatedly tried to stop her crying by pacifying her. Lord Krishna began massaging her lotus feet while keeping His head at them, yet Radharani remained silent and did not speak anything.
Krishna also placed His flute at Radharani’s lotus feet and accepted that He had offended her. He promised not to repeat that offense and asked for her forgiveness in a very humble mood. Even after the continuous efforts of Krishna to pacify her, Radharani did not immediately speak to Him. Pacifying her became extremely difficult for Krishna, but He continued trying to appease her.
Eventually, her maan subsided, and Krishna succeeded in pacifying Shrimati Radharani. They were both reunited and continued their divine pastimes, bringing the Mansarovar leela to its conclusion.
Conclusion
This Mansarovar leela of Radha and Krishna is a depiction of the depth of their pure love, which further intensified in the mood of separation. Although Radha and Krishna appear in two different bodies, they are one internally. Therefore, when one of them becomes displeased, the other immediately feels the pain of separation. Hearing, reading, narrating, and bathing in the holy Mansarovar is believed to grant great spiritual merits.
