Verse 1
Hearing the sound of the cowherds' horn at dawn, Jatila brought alms and offered them, but the silent lord of yogis only shook his head, refusing to accept.
Verse 2
Jatila said, "Then tell me what it is you want." The yogi made it plain: "I will take alms only from your daughter-in-law's hand — send her here at once."
Verse 3
"If I take alms without her giving something of herself in exchange, my vow as a yogi will be broken," he said. Hearing this, her body thrilled, and she ran to speak with her daughter-in-law.
Verse 4
"At the door stands a supremely enchanting great yogi; I sense from his bearing that he is a man of true knowledge. Prepare a plate heaped with valuables with great care, and go give him alms yourself."
Verse 5
Hearing this, Radha rose, saying, "I will go near this yogi." Jatila said, "Have no doubt, there will be great benefit simply from seeing him."
Verse 6
Upon a plate filled with wheat flour, and a golden vessel filled with ghee, Radha carried them in joined hands, calling out as she approached — and on seeing him, her heart trembled.
Verse 7
The yogi said, "I will not take this alms — I want only one thing from your own mouth: go and forgive whatever pride you still hold against the son of Nanda."
Verse 8
Hearing this, Radha covered her face with her veil, for it was the very king of dancers himself, disguised in that garb. Govinda Dasa says that crest-jewel among actors thus accomplished the purpose in his heart and departed.
