History & About

ISKCON Ujjain, at Hare Krishna Land in Bharatpuri, is the Ujjain centre of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The presiding deities are Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan, and the altars also hold Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, the gopis Lalita and Vishakha, and Sri Sri Krishna Balarama.

The temple is a modern marble building opened in February 2006. Daily worship follows the ISKCON tradition, beginning with the Mangala Aarti before dawn, and major Vaishnava festivals such as Janmashtami and Snana Yatra are celebrated with great devotion. Ujjain holds special meaning for Krishna devotees as the city where Lord Krishna and Balarama studied under Sage Sandipani.

Work on the ISKCON Ujjain project began in 2004 under the guidance of His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami, when a temporary structure was set up. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in February 2005, and construction progressed rapidly from April 2005.

The temple was inaugurated on 9 February 2006, the auspicious day of Nityananda Trayodashi, in the presence of senior ISKCON leaders and local residents.

Very serene, very peaceful, and a perfect place if you believe in Radha-Krishna and the Vaishnava tradition. 1. This is one of the very few ISKCON temples with five different altars: Narasimha Dev, Gaur-Nitai, Radha Madan Mohan, Krishna-Balaram, Jagannath-Baladev-Subhadra, and finally Srila Prabhupada. The spiritual atmosphere is truly uplifting. 2. The temple has multiple food outlets: • Govinda’s for complete dining • Atithi Prasadam if you want a simple, homely thali • A snack counter serving pav bhaji, tikki, gol gappe, etc. 3. The goshala is absolutely beautiful. Just touching the cows brings so much peace. They don’t feed the cows any cooked food—this shows the high level of care and health standards they maintain. There’s also a separate section for bulls, though people usually prefer spending time with the cows. 4. Try to visit around aarti time—that’s when the experience feels the most divine. 5. They also serve free khichdi prasadam regularly, like all ISKCON temples worldwide. And of course, ISKCON khichdi is world-famous—don’t miss it! 6. One very special aspect of this temple is that spiritual counselors are always available. If you’re going through any challenges in life, you can reach out to them for motivation and spiritual guidance. Their guidance is deeply rooted in the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, making this a perfect place not just for worship, but for inner clarity and strength. A must-visit place for devotees and anyone seeking peace, purpose, and positivity.
