Srila Rupa Goswami, in his book Nectar of Instruction (Updeshmrita), describes six urges that are very difficult to control. If a person is able to control these urges, they become qualified to make disciples all over the world.

1. Urge to Speak (Vaco-vega)

The urge to speak is the impulse to talk unnecessarily about worldly matters and material enjoyment, using our speaking power for discussions unrelated to Krishna consciousness.

2. Demands of the Mind (Mano-vega)

The mind’s urge is its restless pursuit of material desires, attachments, and plans for enjoyment. It becomes agitated as it seeks satisfaction through these changing desires

3. Urge of Anger (Krodha-vega)

Anger arises when material desires remain unfulfilled or personal plans are frustrated. This agitation pushes a person to react angrily to whatever obstructs their desired enjoyment.

4. Urge of the Tongue (Jihva-vega)

The tongue’s urge is its craving for delicious food and pleasing tastes. Even eating prasadam becomes sense gratification when driven by taste and accompanied by overeating.

5. Urge of the Belly (Udara-vega)

The belly’s urge is the desire to eat more than the body needs. Excessive eating satisfies this demand but creates discomfort and unnecessary difficulties in life.

6. Urge of the Genitals (Upastha-vega)

The urge of the genitals is the demand for sexual pleasure. Unrestrained indulgence includes thinking, planning, talking about, or engaging in sexual activity outside scriptural regulation.
