Translation

Verse 1

Whatever person reads this sacred scripture, the Gita, with careful attention, attains the abode of Vishnu, free from fear, grief, and all such afflictions.

Verse 2

For one habituated to studying the Gita and devoted to the practice of controlled breathing, the sins committed in previous births simply cease to exist.

Verse 3

Bathing in water day after day removes only the dirt from the body, but a single bath in the waters of the Gita destroys the very impurity of material existence.

Verse 4

One need only see that the Gita is well studied — what need is there of elaborate study of other scriptures — since the Gita itself flowed directly from the lotus mouth of Padmanabha?

Verse 5

Having drunk the Ganges-water of the Gita, the very essence of the nectar of the Mahabharata that flowed from the mouth of Vishnu, one is no longer subject to rebirth.

Verse 6

All the Upanishads are the cows, the son of the cowherd is their milker, Arjuna is the calf, and the wise person is the one who drinks; the great nectarean milk is the Bhagavad-gita itself.

Verse 7

There is but one scripture, the song sung by the son of Devaki; there is but one Deity, that very son of Devaki; there is but one mantra, his holy names; and there is but one duty, service unto that Lord.
