Verse 1
ati-ciram ajani rajanir ati-kālī
sańgam avindata na hi vana-mālī
Verse 2
kim u candrāvalir anaya-gabhīrā
nyaruṇad amuḿ rati-vīram adhīrā
Verse 3
kim iha jane dhṛta-pańka-vipāke
vismṛtir asya babhūva varāke
Verse 4
kim uta sanātana-tanur alaghiṣṭham
raṇam ārabhata surāribhir iṣṭam
Verse 1
The night has grown very long and very dark, yet the wearer of the forest garland has not come to meet her.
Verse 2
Has deep, cunning Chandravali restrained that hero of love, herself grown impatient?
Verse 3
Or has he simply forgotten this poor girl, sunk as she is in the mire of her own fate?
Verse 4
Or has the eternal one perhaps begun some great battle desired by the enemies of the gods?
