Translation

Verse 1

"O Svarupa, may this one become yours" — saying so in a smiling, affectionate voice, making Raghunatha's body thrill with joy, privately teaching him himself the secret seal of his own love — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 2

"O Svarupa, how did Rupa come to know the wound of my heart, that he has written it down, letter by letter, on a palm leaf, for even you to read?" — saying this, quivering with love, transformed at once by that emotion — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 3

"O Svarupa, this one here, harboring the wish to give up all his fine possessions, unknown even to you" — gazing on as Sanatana rose up, his face full of great astonishment — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 4

"O Svarupa, of what use was it that I proclaimed the holy name to the world, if I could not even teach this son of Sivananda to recite it?" — saying this, by the touch of his own feet he turned this child into a poet — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 5

"O Svarupa, tell of the ways of rasa among the lotus-eyed ones in Vraja, born of deep love and jealous pique — my two ears long for it; and whatever the sulking beloved does even now, let me see that too" — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 6

"O Svarupa, you are a very temple of rasa, the very seat of my joy; here in Purusottama you are to me just what the land of Vraja itself would be" — saying this, and by his own embrace making him thrill with joy — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 7

"O Svarupa, what was seen, and where, in the dream last night? Tell me, master — was it that fresh youth, dark as a fine raincloud? What did he do — is he still to be seen, or not?" — falling into just that anxious state — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 8

"O Svarupa, right before my very eyes Krishna smiles and moves away — will he not take my hand, my friend?" — thus stumbling, running, sighing, forever reeling about — may that Lord Gauracandra shine long within my heart.

Verse 9

This octet of the nectarean, most confidential and wondrous deeds shared between Svarupa and Mahaprabhu — whoever, blessed, recites it every day, him the son of Saci draws into Svarupa's own intimate circle, letting him taste there the dense sweetness of love at his own feet.
