How Sewal Mandir Began
Sewal Mandir is an historical holy place, started around 450 to 500 years ago, around the 16th century. Since then, the place has attracted thousands of devotees every year to pray and find peace.
The mandir is located between the Aravalli Hills and the villages of Khohri, Dhanota and Teski. An old government record from the year 1631-32 also mentions this mandir. This shows how old and respected it is. People of all religions have deep faith in Sewal Mandir. For them, it is a place of love and togetherness (सबका मंदिर).
Baba Khakdar and Seva That Never Stopped (अखंड सेवा)
Sewal Mandir's first pujari was Siddha Baba Khakdar. He prayed and did tapasya here for many years. People loved and respected him, and the ruler of that time gave the mandir about 157 bigha of farmland to help run it.
After Baba Khakdar, the seva never stopped. For 11 generations, saints looked after the mandir with love, from Ratan Das Baba to Lakhan Das Baba.
Our Trust and Who Looks After the Mandir Today
To keep the mandir safe, Shri Premdas made a trust. The Devasthan Department registered it on 30 July 1979 (No. 674). Today, the mandir and its land are recorded in government records in the name of this trust.
Now, the trustees of the Hare Krishna Movement, Jaipur look after the mandir. The seva continues; only the people have changed.
Holy Places Inside the Mandir
Many holy places are inside the mandir hills. You can see Jind ki Gufa, an old cave where saints sat in silence, and Saad ki Baithak, a holy sitting place of the saints. There is also a rare havan kund with 18 corners and natural springs that flow year-round.
Our Gaushala: Taking Care of Cows
A gaushala was started near the mandir in 1992. Today, about 300 cows live here and are looked after with love. Every gau seva helps give them food, care and a safe home.
Forest, Peacocks and Healing Herbs
Sewal Mandir is surrounded by a thick forest of dhok, palash, gular, peepal and jamun trees. Peacocks and many other animals live here safely.
This forest is home to six of Rajasthan's 39 endangered plants. Many healing herbs like ashwagandha, shatavari, kali musli, punarnava and gokhru also grow here. For years, local people have used these herbs as natural medicine.
