Jagat Shiromani Temple Amer, Jaipur

Perched along the road leading up to the iconic Amer Fort, the Jagat Shiromani Temple is a hidden gem that rewards every visitor who steps through its carved marble gateway. It holds a rare distinction — this is believed to be the only shrine in India where Meera Bai is enshrined alongside Lord Krishna.

The sacred vigraha of Lord Krishna here is said to be the very same deity that Meera Bai worshipped in Mewar centuries ago with pure love and devotion. Every inch of the temple is adorned with exquisite carvings of sacred scenes from Vedic scriptures, celestial musicians, and floral motifs, making it a masterpiece of Rajasthani craftsmanship.

The temple was commissioned by Queen Kanakwati, wife of the Kachwaha ruler Raja Man Singh I, as a memorial to their son Prince Jagat Singh, who died young. Built between 1599 and 1608 CE, its name translates to “Crest Jewel of the World.”

The finest artisans carved sacred scenes from Vedic scriptures into marble and sandstone. According to tradition, the sacred vigraha of Lord Krishna was rescued from Mewar during the Mughal conflicts and brought to Amer by its rulers for safekeeping.
