Grains:- Lentils, Rice, Barley, Wheat, and other grains are well-chosen for donation. It ensures the nourishment of the needy people and the welfare of those who offer the items.

Clothes:- Offering daily wearing clothes like dhoti, kurta, and other essentials to brahmins is a traditionally followed ritual. Usually, white, yellow, or saffron colours are preferred. 

Utensils:- Utensils that are made up of copper, steel, or brass are offered to the brahmins. Items like plates, spoons, pots, or other daily-used essentials that used to perform certain puja rituals.

Til (black sesame seeds):- Black sesame seeds are used in sacred activities like various yagnas, and other puja rituals. 

Desi Ghee:- Desi Ghee(cow's ghee) is used in various sacred rituals like yagnas, light lamps, and even inside the offered food to the Lord. 

Fruits & Dry fruits:- Seasonal fruits, dry fruits are used in the offerings of the pind daan ritual. 

Money:- Offering a certain amount of dakshina is offered to the brahmins. It is the way to thank the sages for their help. 

Water pots (Kalash):- A copper-made kalash is used to perform the rituals of offering the water mixed with sesame seeds, barley, and kusha grass during tarpan. And, to sprinkle on the offering items of pind daan.

Annadaan:- Prepared food items during pind daan are offered to ancestors, brahmins, and then to the cows and the needy people. It is considered the most important part of performing daan.

Whom to Give Daan During Shradh?

At the time of shradh, donation must be given to the right receiver. The Vedic scriptures clearly consider the specific people who are worthy to receive shradh daan. This makes sure that the ritual blessings reach the ancestor's soul without any hindrance. 

Primary recipients are brahmins, who live a simple or sattvic lifestyle. They are chosen to perform rituals as they carry the Vedic knowledge. They act as a mediator between people and Pitras. When they accept the daan, the overall process gets purified.

Timing: Shradh rituals are usually performed at the time of Pitru Paksha(Bhadrapada fortnight). Completing rituals in the particular tithi of their ancestor's death.

Purity: The one who performs the rituals should maintain cleanliness, eat simple food(avoid tamasic food like onion, non-veg, and garlic), and wear simple clothes.

Food Offerings: The food that is offered must be fresh and sattvic. This food is later fed to the brahmanas, cows, and the poor people. 

Recipients: Daan should be offered to the brahmins, cows, and needy people. 

Dakshina: Along with the daily-use items, one must give other useful things respectfully. 

Benefits of Doing Shradh Daan

Shradh Daan is more than a mere ritual. It is a responsibility of the family members to provide salvation to the ancestors. The influence of this sincerity reflects upon one's spiritual, karmic, and family's daily lifestyle.

Liberation: 

Shradh offerings are meant to provide ultimate peace and liberation to the departed souls. In most cases, the ancestor's soul doesn't get an afterlife relief because of their sins and unfulfilled desires.

But, daan unbound their souls from the karmic reactions of their sins and unfulfilled desires. Also, it releases them from the circle of birth and death forever.

Removal of Pitru Dosha:
