Translation

Verse 1

The tongue drags me toward taste, while the genitals degrade me utterly; the belly pulls me toward eating — such is the terrible misfortune of these unchecked senses.

Verse 2

The skin drags me toward soft, comfortable things; the ears toward pleasant talk; the nose toward fragrance; and the eyes go wherever there is something to see.

Verse 3

My organs of action pull me toward their own activities, just as a householder with many wives is pulled in many directions at once — in just that way do they drag at my mind.

Verse 4

O son of Nanda, this is the state I am in — in what way, then, shall I ever manage to remember your pastimes?
